Fonmon Castle Grounds & History

There are acres of grounds to explore that are steeped in medieval history. Behind every stone and under every blade of grass is a mystery worth unturning.

Built by the St. John family in the early 13th century, the castle has only changed hands only once. It is one of few medieval castles in the UK to still be used as a home.

The Castle has many beautiful acres of land and indoor areas for visitors to explore. Wander through the vibrant grounds into the stunning walled gardens. Located at the end of the south lawn, you can also spot a folly and several different garden rooms. Enjoy the delights of the enclosed scented garden and the thatched summerhouse. Can you find the secret garden? Filled with blooms of flowers, herb beds & an area for growing produce for the house's kitchens, the secret garden is a magical place to explore with your kids.

As you venture indoors you will discover breathtaking Georgian interiors. Marvel at the grand hall, natter away in the drawing room and scour the magnificent library & kitchen. Feel the echoes of the past come to life as you inspect and learn more about the home's rich history.

Step back into the prehistoric realms of time at Fonmon Castle... This impressive Jurassic Wales attraction combines adventure & fitness! Light your imaginations on fire as you become an exclusive member of the Dinosaur Hunters Team. Fonmon Castle needs your help to find the lost dinosaur, are you in? This Dinosaur Exhibition includes animatronic dinosaurs, a Raptor Pit (dinosaur sand pit), and an educational guide that explains the history of the Cretaceous period. And if you can't get enough of these amazing creatures then you'll love the Dino Dome Experience. The Dino Dome is a highlight of the attraction, featuring an educational dinosaur show that takes visitors back in time to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. While the show is not actually a time travel experience, it uses special effects and educational materials to create a fun and engaging way for visitors to learn about dinosaurs and their environment.

Explore the reconstructed Norman Wooden Towers in the Norman Ring Works attraction. Learn about this fascinating defensive structure that was used by the Normans after invading Britain in the 11th century.

Don't forget to check out the Medieval Farm and Grange! Check out this real-life history of village and farm and learn the importance of farming in medieval times. Learn about the feudal system and how tough farming life was under Norman rule.

Events

Fonmon Castle is available throughout the year for a wide variety of events, both outside in the extensive gardens and indoors. Their events range from seasonal, work and wedding events! You can also book the home for corporate and fine dining events like the Theatre Dinner Experience. There are also fine dining experiences available in the Castle's tipis.

Food & Drink

If you are enjoying the dinosaur trail experience it only makes sense to hitch up your walking boots and rest up your feet in the Dino dome! Munch on food, a coffee, a milkshake or an ice cream.

Taste the local delights of welsh Lemonade, ginger beer and cider in the Tea Rooms! The Heartsease Cans of lemonade are made freshly in Radnorshire! There are lots of flavours to try like Sparkling Traditional Lemonade, Sparkling British Raspberry Lemonade, Sparkling Fiery Ginger Beer, and Sparkling Wild Elderflower Pressé! Mom, dad, & older children aged 18+ can enjoy crisp bottles of Cider from Welsh Medal Cider, Autumn Magic, Orchard Gold and Perry Vale!
