Mottisfont Abbey and Garden is a romantic house converted from a medieval Augustinian priory that still retains the original ‘font' from which it got its name, set in beautiful riverside gardens.
This lovely old house is full of surprises, and framed by rolling lawns, ancient trees, bubbling brooks, walled gardens, and national collection of old fashioned roses. With an all year round art and events programme, there is something for all the family at this special place.
You can find out about the abbey and explore some of the interesting remains, discover the extraordinary painted saloon of Rex Whistler where nothing is as it seems, and explore the beautiful vaulted cellarium!
Kids can learn stories of love and loss, conflict, and creativity in this fantastic place, using the Spotter Trail and Story Map to uncover the mysteries of the house, and become an art expert in the gallery, which has changing exhibitions throughout the year.
The grounds have plenty of delights to enjoy, from the perfectly manicured Lime Walk, to the hidden Ice House, and the Summerhouse. There are also loose boxes in the stables to explore, the potting shed in the walled garden, and the Shepherd's Hut by the beech circle.
If you fancy going a bit further afield, pick up on the Estate Walks to help you and the kids discover the surrounding landscape. Look out for local birds, find fish in the river, and hunt for bugs in grounds that are bursting with life!
Dogs are welcome in most places, but will need to be kept on a short lead at all times. There are dog friendly seating areas that offer shelter from the weather, and water bowls, plus you can even treat your canine friend to a ‘doggy ice cream' from the Ice Cream Parlour!
