Attraction Information
The lovely Lakeside Country Park is created from reclaimed gravel pits, which makes the range and quality of it's landscaping even more special and interesting! You can see Galloway Cattle in their fenced off areas, plus keep them peeled for Kingfishers, Tawny Owls, Foxes, grass snakes and Roe Deer. Well worth bringing binoculars along!
There are plenty of wildfowl such as ducks and geese around the lake, they actually ask that you please not feed them due to it encouraging the local water rat population, so keep an eye out for them too! They're not cute to everyone but they can really motor so kids tend to find them funny. Both sets of species are one of the reasons that dog walkers must maintain a leash attachment, and stick to the approved Paws Trail (marked on site).
Plus, you can catch a pleasing little ride on their narrow gauge Eastleigh Lakeside Railway daily from mid-July to mid-September or weekends surrounding that, with a circuit of the park departing from the station at Doncaster Drove. The Lakeside Cafe is also available as an alternative to picnicking if you're hankering for something warmer or a decent comfy seat while you enjoy it.
