About Lancaster Maritime Museum

Dive right into history at Lancaster Maritime Museum!

You'll feel as though you’ve been transported into the past as you explore the maritime trade of the city and delve into the story of the port and the canal using sound, smells, reconstructions and audiovisuals. Trade is at the heart of Lancaster, you don’t fully know the city until you’ve been to this museum.

You can explore the area's other connections to the sea here too. Climb aboard a stagecoach and listen to the tales of the people who once crossed the sands of Morecambe Bay. See how Morecambe's fishing families used to live, or marvel at some medieval log boats.

All aboard!

Climb inside our replica packet boat and imagine a journey on the Lancaster Canal, or sit in a stagecoach and listen to stories of the perilous crossing over the sands of Morecambe Bay.

You'll find other interactives all around the museum too - try our puzzles and games or put on a Georgian costumes and get in the frame for a family portrait!

Trails & Exhibitions

Our changing exhibitions always include interactive elements designed for children (and the young at heart!)

We're always creating new children's trails to tie in with these too. Pick one up and discover a whole new way to engage with our displays.

Holiday fun

School holidays mean special events! Our craft sessions, art adventues and other kids activities are all inspired by the maritime and seaside history of our local area.
