Great days out for the whole family. A timeless Manor House set in acres of stunning, family-friendly gardens and parkland, in the beautiful Suffolk village of Long Melford.
Kentwell Hall is one of the finest moated Tudor Houses in England, set in over 25 acres of its own gardens and parkland, with numerous historic buildings. A stunning mellow redbrick house with two forward wings of the early 16th C, surrounded by a broad moat. Its main features are its impressive, little-altered exterior elevations and its separate 15th C part half-timbered service building.
We are best known for turning back the clock and inviting visitors to step back in time to fully immerse themselves in history. Kentwell's living history re-creations are unique. They offer a scale and depth unmatched anywhere, giving total immersion in the sights, sounds and smells of the past. An excellent and stimulating combination of history and nostalgia, over 2000 years of history in one place, on one day - only at Kentwell! Travel from the stone age to the 1970s, with each time period in its own individual setting, all properly equipped and costumed, and with activities appropriate to each individual period. The ultimate day of History Time Travel!
Standing majestically in its own parklands, Kentwell Hall is surrounded by a spectacular moat and peaceful and romantic formal and informal gardens.
A rich and colourful experience throughout the year, the gardens have carpets of snowdrops in early spring followed by a mass of daffodils and cowslips. There are plentiful wild pyramid orchids to be found in summer, when the walled garden is a riot of colour and the rose garden flourishes. Best of all perhaps are the delicate pink American pillar roses which adorn the moat walls. The gardens have evolved under different owners over the centuries and reflect how many people may imagine an old-fashioned country house garden.
You can also explore our traditional working farm and make time to meet our rare breed sheep, pigs horses and goats and stop to say hello to Sylvie and Saffy, our miniature shetland ponies.
Spectacular events throughout the year for the whole family.
For well over 30 years we've been trailblazing Tudor domestic living history events in the UK. However, Kentwell does so much more than that!
Here is just a few examples of what we have planned this year, but head over to our events page on the website and see the packed calendar of events we have in store.
Snowdrop Days, Lambing Weekends, Eastertide,T udor May Day Celebration, History Festivals, Tudor Manor Midsummer, Magic Weekend, WW1 - Bring the boys home, Hands on History, Tudor Michaelmas, Scaresville, Halloweenies, Dickensian Christmas.
