Doddington Hall & Gardens
Doddington, LincolnshireAbout Doddington Hall & Gardens
Doddington Hall and Gardens is a magnificent attraction to visit, with beautiful gardens, historic buildings, flower beds and more. Architect Robert Smythson began building the beautiful building in 1595 and it was finished 5 years later. It's never been sold or cleared out since, showing how well it's done for itself!
It was originally built for the registrar to the Bishop of Lincoln, Thomas Tailor. The Doddington Hall has mellow brick exteriors and walled courtyards and a walled garden, which are still there today. Presently there are five acres of gardens, many estate walks to be explored, a farm shop or attending one of their many events, like an art exhibition or sculpture exhibition. With an extraordinary history like Doddington Hall and Gardens, there is much to learn! Whether it's about one of many family histories or about the extensive gardens.
The gardens are known to be spectacular, with an original Elizabethan layout, like the formal West Garden which has beautiful botanical flora, daffodils and a tapestry of box-edged parterres. The Wild Garden has gorgeous bulbs flowering every spring, such as snowdrops, daffodils, snakehead fritillaries and irises. It's a beautiful sight to see and would make for a perfect outdoor day out with the family, especially if you love estate houses and beautiful gardens!
