Athelhampton House and Gardens is a 15th century house with beautiful grounds, dating back to 1891.
The Great Hall of this house, built in 1485 would once have served as the entire accommodation and is a good example of Tudor architecture. The other rooms of the house were added over time and include a Gallery, based on the second floor. There is a fascinating collection of English furniture, including a huge shiny copper bath.
The gardens include the Great Court, with its 9 metre tall pyramid yew trees, the Private Garden and Octagonal pond, leading you to the river Piddle. You can follow the river through natural areas toward the ancient dovecote. There are lots of hidden corners for the kids to explore.
Built in 1861, St Edwards's church, became the estate's church when it was purchased in 1975 and it is still in use today. Worth taking a look at while you are walking around the grounds.
