Built between 1886 and 1894, it was designed to ease road traffic while maintaining access to the bustling Pool of London docks. Its unique design, featuring two bridge towers connected by walkways and a pair of bascules (drawbridges), makes it a marvel of its time. It was designed by Horace Jones and engineered by John Wolfe Barry.

Things To Do
Built with moveable roadways to allow ships to pass under the River Thames, the Tower of London is considered an engineering marvel! Visitors can experience the Tower of London's high-level Walkways and the fantastic original steam engines! Delve into the fascinating histories of Victorian London and the coal-burning steam engines, with animations and digital displays to keep you interested. There is also an option to go on a guided tour of the engine room.
Originally, Tower Bridge's bascules were operated by steam power. They use hydraulic power today, but the original Victorian engines can still be seen in action in the engine rooms.
If you're hoping to see the beautiful views of London, then the Glass Floor is the place to be. With spectacular panoramic views on the West Walkway, you'll always remember this trip. The floor is 11m long and 2m wide, offering you and the family a unique perspective of looking down over a whopping 42m to the River Thames beneath you! The glass floors are also 33.5 metres above road level, so you can watch the London buses and cabs drive underneath you! Can you see the Millennium Bridge? You could spend 1-2 hours exploring and learning about the bridge. It's one of the best educational sites in London. The entrance is at the Ticket Office on the west side of the North Tower. Tower Bridge wasn't always blue and white. It was originally painted chocolate brown. It received its current iconic paint scheme in 1977 for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee.

Sadly, there is no café or restaurant on-site. Tower Bridge is near open spaces such as Potters Field Park, where you can sit down and have lunch or a picnic with your family. Otherwise, there are several places to eat out in the vicinity.

By Tube
Take the Circle or District Line to Tower Hill Station. From the station, it's a short 10-minute walk to Tower Bridge. Follow signs towards the Tower of London, then cross the bridge for breathtaking views and easy access.
By Train
If you're travelling by train, head to London Bridge Station. From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk. Exit the station and follow the signs for Tooley Street, then walk east along the riverbank until you reach Tower Bridge.
By Bus
Several buses stop near Tower Bridge. Take bus numbers 15, 42, 78, 100, or 343 to Tower Bridge Road. These buses will drop you within a short walking distance of the bridge. Follow the signs to the bridge, and you’ll be there in no time!
