Attraction Information
The Winter Garden is a great place to stop for a peaceful time out in the heart of Sheffield and it's right beside the Millennium Gallery too so perfect for a dual visit! A pleasing chance to get back to nature in a very modern setting and for kids to stretch their legs.
This striking glasshouse is actually large enough to hold5,000 of the common garden greenhouse and features a superb display of more than2,500 plants from all around the world! It's a really nice place to explore with kids, with plenty of flowering and fragrant plants to keep things interesting in amongst the glorious greenery.
The plants were deliberately chosen to be pleasing to the eye and there are 150 species, including big palms from Madagascar, China and Central America, plus Eucalyptus trees and Norfolk Island Pines which can grow to a whopping 150ft (45m)!
It may also be of interest to kids that the building is pretty high tech with an intelligent Building Management system that controls fans and vents to adjust the temperature during the different seasons and it will actually ‘learn' what is best as the years go on! Nobody say Skynet!
The Garden is also home to the Bessemer Gallery and provides access to the Millennium Galleries which has a world class metalwork collection with plenty more to look at too. A great dual trip!
