About the Attraction
Upon entering the Winter Garden, you'll be greeted by a lush paradise overflowing with vibrant plant life from around the world. With over 2,500 beautiful plants, including exotic trees and native flora, this captivating space showcases the beauty and diversity of nature. The glass-panelled structure allows sunlight to filter through, creating a tranquil and warm atmosphere that invites exploration. It's truly a unique experience to explore in the city centre.
The plants were deliberately chosen to be pleasing to the eye and there are 150 species of plants, including big palms from Madagascar, China and Central America, plus Eucalyptus trees and Norfolk Island Pines which can grow to a whopping 150ft (45m)!
Did you know it's big enough to house 5,000 domestic greenhouses?! This multi-award-winning garden is also the largest urban glasshouse in Europe too! That's a lot of space for flourishing fauna!
The Winter Garden offers an array of interactive activities to engage and educate young minds. Children can embark on a botanical adventure by participating in workshops and guided tours designed to spark curiosity and deepen their understanding of the plant kingdom.
It may also be of interest to kids that the building is pretty high-tech with an intelligent Building Management system that controls fans and vents to adjust the temperature during the different seasons and it will actually ‘learn' what is best as the years go on! Nobody say Skynet!
Beyond the educational aspects, the Winter Garden offers magical moments for families to cherish. Imagine sitting on one of the comfortable benches surrounded by colourful flowers, listening to the soothing sound of the indoor waterfall. Children can marvel at the koi fish gracefully gliding through the water or spot butterflies fluttering amidst the blossoms. These serene and captivating scenes make for perfect photo opportunities and create lasting memories for the whole family!
Seasonal Events
Throughout the year, the Winter Garden hosts a range of events and exhibitions that cater to families. From themed displays highlighting specific plant species or ecosystems, there's always something exciting happening.
