The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
Toddington, GloucestershireAbout The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway offers a lovely way to enjoy the scenic sights of the English Cotswolds along a lovingly restored line operated by steam and diesel trains.
Since 1981, volunteers have carefully restored the GWSR heritage railway which now includes nearly 15 miles of line plus platforms, buildings, heritage steam and diesel trains, and rolling stock: it's a chuff head's dream! The railway offers about a 30-mile round trip between Broadway and Cheltenham Racecourse, travelling through some spectacular scenery ideal for a quiet afternoon jaunt on the rails.
Most service trains offer refreshments too so you don't even have to haul a picnic along with you (unless you want to!) either from their lovely restored Buffet coaches, or their recently restored Restaurant coach. There is also The Coffee Pot Cafe at Winchcombe Station, a Refreshment Room at Broadway Station, the Snacks By Tracks refreshment cabin at Cheltenham Race Course Station, plus a charming cafe at Toddington.
There are shops selling souvenirs and books at Toddington and Broadway Stations.
The Restoration & Archiving Trust operates three small displays of artefacts at Toddington Station. One is located in a former GWR Collett Brake Coach dating from 1935, and houses a display of memorabilia and early scenes of the railway. There is a small toy museum in the old Honeybourne Signal Box and another collection in the cabin on Toddington Platform 2. There's also a mini signal box where you can have a go at operating real railway signals.
Plus on top of the scheduled services, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway hosts a number of galas and enthusiast and children's events throughout the year, including very popular Santa Expresses from Cheltenham Race Course Station!
