About The Climbing Academy Boulder Club Bristol
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing free from ropes and harnesses. It is done on low height walls above crash mats. We have classes that cater for ages 0 to 16 and adult classes for 16+.
For parents and children aged 0 to 4 we run the Tiny Academy, an informal and interactive class where we provide instruction, toys and squash for parents and kids alike! This runs every Wednesday morning 9.30am to 10.30am.
For children aged 5 to 7 we run the Little Squirrel's club which integrates safety and general climbing knowledge with coaching, fun and games! We have our own 5 level award system, with certificates upon completion of each level.
Then we run Boulder Club for 8 to 16s. Boulder Club uses the National Indoor Bouldering Award Scheme (NIBAS) which is nationally accredited and can be used at many other climbing walls across the UK. We are the only primary awarding centre in the South West.
NIBAS helps young people develop their climbing skills at their own pace under the guidance of an instructor. Again, there are certificates upon completion of each level and once children have reached level 3 they can often be signed off to climb independently.
NIBAS requires registration with the scheme and logbooks to record achievements for the level they have been working on. The cost for this is £6 which is paid at the same time as your first class booking.
Many children have the opportunity to move up from Boulder Club to our Squad, who compete at a local and national level. Note: Our courses are not limited to younger people! Adults can register by watching a 10 minute induction video and Family Inductions can be arranged over email.
