What is the Secret of the Thames?
The Secret of the Thames is the UK's FIRST ever major exhibit that's dedicated to mudlarking - an activity that involves scavenging through banks and shorelines of rivers for valuable items.
Did you know that twice a day, the River Thames falls back quite a lot - exposing a muddy landscape that can be filled with fascinating objects and even historical treasures? Alongside the mud and the stones, you'll be able to discover a time long forgotten throughout human history and deep dive into interesting stories of generations gone by.
The Secret of the Thames exhibit will feature over 350 objects on display that have been found from mudlarking. From historical relics and personal items like...false teeth from the 18th century to even medieval gold, like a Viking-era dagger! These mudlarked objects will open your understanding of history, and you'll even find items from the Tudor times - like a Tudor wool-knitted hat and a beautiful gold ring!
Plus, you'll be able to learn all about the moon's mysteries and how the moon affects the tide.
