This Poisonous Garden is home to over 100 toxic, intoxicating, and narcotic plants. With some that have such poisonous properties that they are kept in giant cages. Wow! Each one of the deadly plants is accompanied by information plaques that reveal intriguing facts and historical anecdotes. Discover plants like the infamous Deadly Nightshade, whose berries were once used by Venetians to enlarge their pupils for cosmetic purposes. Or the Strychnine tree, known for its use in rat poison but also in traditional medicines.

No we aren't joking! This is not your typical garden visit.The Alnwick Poison Garden has a very unique collection of plants. It's full of the deadly and venomous plants that you can only see on a guided tour. As you step through the black iron gates, marked with a skull and cross bones warning sign, the first thing you'll appreciate is the garden's commitment to safety. These plants with killer properties like toxic fumes deserve respect! Remember once you enter through the black gates it's a hands-off, minds-on experience. Careful observations are encouraged, but smelling and touching are not – for obvious reasons!
