Attraction Information
Ogham Wishes Claypipe Centre
Knockcroghery was world renowned for the last 300 years for the professional production of clay pipes. By the late 1800's virtually the entire village was involved in the manufacture of them, and they were then distributed extensively throughout the entire country. They were at the time smoked by both men and women and were predominantly known as the pipe of the so-called common man.
They have lovingly revived the craft of pipe making using the impressive and original moulds and tools. Each pipe is hand-made using the same skills employed by artisans centuries ago! A great place for some secret or not so secret schooling as there's loads to learn and loads of enthusiastic and knowledgeable folks to learn it from! You can also peek around the gallery of antique pipe heads dating from the early 1800's to 1921.
All in all while it's brilliant that they've revived the old traditions it's not going to be a long stop unless you're a collector and the emphasis is rather on your buying a souvenir pipe rather than it being a full museum experience, so be prepared to find more shop than show!
