Things To Do At Manchester Cathedral
Explore history! Manchester Cathedral is a Gothic church with a rich history dating back to the 15th century. This medieval structure was built by Henry V! You can see all the marks hundreds of years of history have had on the building's grand and intricate architecture. Did you know that in 1847, a new diocese of Manchester was created, and the historic church became a Cathedral? The beautiful and stained glass windows, soaring ceilings, and detailed stone carvings are absolutely magnificent! As you walk through the cathedral, you'll find plenty of fascinating stories behind its design, such as the medieval choir stalls with unique carvings.
It's actually the old church of the world's first great industrial city and was granted a Grade 1 listing building status in 1952.
You can visit the Church on Sunday mornings for Church Service. You'll hear the cathedral choir during the service and the bells are normally rung for Church service and to mark special occasions, like the visit of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Manchester Cathedral often offers family-friendly activities throughout the year and regularly hosts family-friendly events, such as workshops, guided tours, craft sessions, and storytelling sessions (with puppets!).
