Waku Waku Japanese 2D Cafe
Manchester, Greater ManchesterAbout Waku Waku Japanese 2D Cafe
Welcome to the UK's first-ever 2D restaurant! Waku Waku has now opened in Manchester and boy, is it seriously cool.
The Restaurant
The first-ever comic-themed restaurant with a glorious twist... It's designed to look like it's straight out of a cartoon! With colour themes of black and white, it's like someone has drawn on paper.
This optical illusion was created by Chris Lui the owner of the 2D cafe himself! The Japanese restaurant is filled with real furniture, but painted in a way that it looks like delicate paper. From a fake bookshelf and famous paintings like The Last Supper to even the chairs and tables!
While all the furniture and decor are black and white to fit the cafe concept, the food certainly POPS and brightens up the place.
The cafe owner used around 150 pencils to draw every cartoon in the cafe - pretty neat if you ask me! His inspiration came from Manga and Japanese comics and previous locations of this aesthetic have been in Dubai and even Hong Kong. But Chris Lui wanted to bring the unique cafe concept to Manchester!
Food & Drink
Chris Lui's menu brings authentic Japanese cuisine to Manchester City. From a traditional rice bowl dish called Donburi, an omelette made with fried rice to deep-fried pork cutlet bowls! Not to mention teriyaki dishes, nigiri, handmade sushi and more! With dishes that are super tasty, full of flavour and look amazing, there's nothing better!
If you're fancying a sweet treat, you won't have to look far! They serve the signature Mount Fuji float with ice cream, shakes and tasty drinks too!
So, if you're looking for some unique, different and really quirky then maybe a trip to Waku Waku the 2D and comic book-style cafe will tick your box.
