View Christmas EventsAbout Hollycombe Steam in the Country
Britain's largest traditional fairground collection, with almost all rides steam-powered. Several rides are now unique. For example, Hollycombe is the only place in the world where you can ride on the Razzle Dazzle, the world's first 'white knuckle' ride.
But there are lots of others too, such as the Golden Galloping Horses, Steam Yacht (early version of Pirate Ship), Steam Swings, Big Wheel (great views over the Downs) and Steam Chair-o-planes as well as juvenile rides especially for the kids. Hollycombe is also home to the world's oldest ride, the c.1870 Mr Field's Steam Circus. You can also see old films in the Bioscope show or enjoy the music of the fair organs. The Haunted House will be celebrating its 100th birthday in 2015.
For a change of pace, take a trip on the 1.5 mile Narrow Gauge 'Quarry Railway' which climbs to spectacular views over the Sussex Weald; the miniature railway is another favourite with the kids. Other attractions include Traction Engine-hauled rides, the Steam Farm as well as the 19th century Listed woodland gardens for walks and picnics.
This is mainly an outdoor attraction, so dress accordingly. Sensible shoes or trainers are advisable.
