Elvaston Castle
Elvaston, DerbyshireAbout Elvaston Castle
The first county park in England, this has been gently entertaining and thoroughly inspiring for forty years.
Obviously devoid of modern entertainments this place of quiet walks and scenic appreciation is probably for the less boisterous child, though there is in addition to the formal gardens, there is acre after acre of woodland and parkland incorporating a lake to explore, hide and run about in.
A tea room, information centre and gift shop are located in the Castle building, though the main castle itself is rarely accessible. There is also the 14 hectare designated Local Nature Reserve that also contains a large lake and a wader scrape.
