Attraction Information
Elsecar Heritage Centre is built on the site of industrial workshops dating to the 1800s and the charmingly restored historical buildings now house a nice little antique centre, individual craft workshops, and exhibitions of Elsecar's past, so it's a great trip to take the grandparents along with you as they can potter around some of that while you hit the more active bits! You can also ride the steam railway which is great for all ages and see the collection of old fire engines.
Just outside the centre is Elsecar Park with its fun range of adventure play equipment for 3 to 10s, plus there are lakeside walks with ever-hungry ducks to feed, a large well equipped sandpit and both pitch and putt and crazy golf courses for a traditional family tournament (go on, mum!).
There's also a range of craft workshops, tea-rooms for your caffeine and fizzy fixes, seasonal special events for children and school holiday activities in the Ironworks, plus Elsecar Heritage is also the ideal location to access the Trans Pennine Trail.
On the same site you'll also find Playmania, an indoor activity and party zone centre and dual level playframe with ball pool, slides, soft sport court and an area for toddlers with rockers and soft construction materials. This is managed separately but easily accessed and it's a great day saver if the weather decides it's not your friend!
