Thrybergh Country Park Rotherham
Rotherham, South YorkshireAbout Thrybergh Country Park Rotherham
In the heart of South Yorkshire, Thrybergh Country Park is a reservoir and nature reserve. With its picturesque lake, mix of meadows, lush greenery, and abundant wildlife, this is a lovely country park for families to enjoy a day out.
Things to do
As you stroll through the park entrance, you'll be greeted by a wonderful green space perfect for outdoor family fun and nature activities.
Lake
One of the park's main attractions is the Thrybergh Park Reservoir/ Lake, which is perfect for fly fishing, birdwatching, or simply enjoying a peaceful stroll by the water. The actual distance around the lake is around 2 miles, so it is ideal for a family walk as it should only take around 45 minutes. The area around the water is also home to various wildlife, including different species of mammals and birds. We think a fun game to play with kids is to see how many creatures they can spot.
Outdoor Activities
For those looking for more adventure, Thrybergh Park offers a range of outdoor activities to enjoy. From fishing on the lake to cycling on the bike trails or walking along the scenic paths, there are plenty of ways to get active and explore the park's natural beauty. The park also features a children's play area, making it an excellent destination for families looking to spend quality time outdoors.
Bird and Wildlife Watching
Here, you can expect to see many species of birds, including extensive water birds. Why not purchase some bird seed at the visitor centre to feed the local resident ducks? The area is the perfect habitat for birds, and you'll even see a couple of bird hides around the reservoir.
Lakeside Cafe
The cafe has scenic views with both indoor and outdoor seating. The type of food served here includes a variety of light meals and snacks. Please note table service is not provided, you order from the counter and bring food and drink to your table.
Thrybergh Country Park Campsite
If more than a day trip is required, why not stay overnight at Thrybergh Country Park Camping and Caravan site. Choose from a caravan pitch or non-electric grass pitch for a truly getting away from daily life experience. There are several amenities to make your camping stay comfortable, including a food shop, shower, and toilet block. Plus a washing-up area, which is helpful if you've cooked up a family BBQ feast. BBQs are permitted on the campsite. Thrybergh is near a variety of other attractions in the area, such as stately homes, castles, and Peak District walks.
