Things To Do At Dinefwr

Let your imagination run wild in the magical grounds of Dinefwr. Make a splash in the water play area in the Oak Yard, before bashing around in the recycled tin shed playhouse ‘Sied Dwt’. After taking in the beautiful view of Newton House, you can design your own castle in the Cardboard Creative space and settle down with a book or a game in the Old Kitchen.

Journey into the world of Welsh legends and folklore at the medieval castle and learn fascinating stories about the rise and ruin of the fortress. Want to feel like a king? Get to the top of the hill and enjoy a full view of "your kingdom" from the Dinefwr castle.

Did you know it's been a family home for over 300 years?!

This Jacobean mansion is now somewhere you can play, relax, enjoy and explore. Get stuck in creative workshops and activities, and discover the Gothic features of this magnificent building. Don't forget to explore the Discover Room, which is full of history commemorated on the walls!

The Parkland

Explore the parkland at your own pace, and look out for deer, ancient oak trees and a secret fairy village along the way. There are also plenty of '50 things to do before you're 11¾' activities!

On this 800-acre estate, there's plenty of wildlife to spot! From Britain's most elusive animals, like otters, to graceful birds like woodpeckers, spotted flycatchers and more!

Then, if you're a nature lover, wander around the carpet of bluebells in the spring. Take in the beautiful sight and snap a few pics! Not only that, but you can discover flower-rich meadows, bog woods and wet meadows - all these habitats are vital to Welsh wildlife.

The deer park is also a must-see! With 100 acres, you might spot over 100 fallow deer roaming around. The ancient woodland holds over 300 oak trees that are...over 400 years old! They're essential to the ecosystem and provide habitats for wildlife and fungi species - what a fun fact! Plus, you can even see the rare and ancient breed of White Park cattle that's been grazing the area for over 1000 years! They've been associated with Dinefwr since the 9th century!

Don't miss the brand new Oak Yard play space! The courtyard has been transformed into a place of delight and discovery for the whole family. Get stuck into den and maze building with traditional hurdles, water play with buckets and washboards! There's even an area for teens next to the new second hand bookshop for children and young people.

Food & Drink

Feeling peckish after your adventuring? Not to worry - you'll have a full belly soon! Head to the cafe for light bites, refreshments and tasty desserts. From sandwiches, warm pasties and savoury snacks to ice cream, sweet treats and hot or cold drinks!

The kids can even get a children's lunchbox filled with a yummy sandwich, drink, snacks, and fun activities!
