Attraction Information
Anglers Country Park, located 4 miles southeast of Wakefield, is a large country park and rural retreat, that is great for walking and picnics, and has a children's adventure playground to burn off any excess energy! The park also has a Visitor Centre, a cafe, free car parking, and it's free to visit: hooray!
There are paths and trails to follow, including the 2 mile Lakeside Walk, and the Woodland walk, plus is it a good starting point to a number of other footpaths and trails, like the Barnsley Canal Towpath, or the Waterton Trail. The park is dominated by a lake, which is surrounded by woodland, grassland, and a wetland area know as the ‘Pol'.
There is always plenty of wildlife to see at this local nature reserve, from Swifts and Swallows in the Spring, to waterfowl in the Autumn, and wildlife sightings are noted on a blackboard at the entrance to the park. You can learn more about the park at the visitor centre, which has wildlife rangers on site. The visitor centre also offers workshops for children during the school holidays.
