Attraction Information
Alderley Edge offers a great family hiking adventure, with plenty to see as you walk the dramatic red sandstone escarpment, which has views over the Cheshire Plain to the Peak District. There are a number of woodland walks to explore, plus the neighbouring Hare Hill Garden.
The Edge has a plenty of interesting habitats to discover, such as rock outcrops and mine workings, ponds, meadows and more, plus its highest point was originally a Bronze Age burial mound! You are sure to hear and see a variety of birds, including woodpeckers, flycatchers and goldcrests, and if you are very lucky you may even see a tawny owl! Other creatures to keep your eyes peeled for include damselflies and dragon flies, plus newts and frogs.
You can discover more about the myths and legends of the area from the Interpretation panel in the carpark, plus details of the colour coded and waymarked routes available (including the Wizard Walk!). Dogs are welcome if you want to bring the family pooch, but please keep them on the lead during lambing and nesting season.
