Attraction Information
The River Soar divides this beautiful park into two distinct areas: to the east of the river lies the highly decorative Victorian part of the park with its evergreen shrubberies, trees, lakes and formally planted flower displays and to the west of the river lies the fascinating Abbey Grounds, either side great for family exploring but in differing ways!
Within this area are the remains of the twelfth century Leicester Abbey and the ruins of Cavendish House, a seventeenth century mansion, so an ideal educational stop to have a rummage round the ruins if they've had enough of running about shrieking!
The Pets Corner area of the park is open throughout the summer season and offers a variety of animals for visitors to enjoy from familiar family pets such as rabbits to the less familiar and expected… They're not going to tell you, so go along and make some new friends, furry and otherwise!
There is also a miniature railway for model engines on Abbey Park itself which is a charming feature very popular with children. The railway is open to the public most Sundays throughout the summer and is a lovely way to extend your family jaunt.
There are also a family friendly cafe and a large play area suitable for children of all ages as well as grassed areas for ball games and the like, so get the kids to pack up the bats, balls, frisbees, and anything else you can think of that'll fit in the kit bag!

Great spacious park 5 out of 5 stars
Hi all, we always visit Abbey Park when all the family gets together, it a huge spacious park beautiful with lots of green space and wonderful trees, it has a river flowing through it which makes a lovely feature, the kids love the little animals and all the ducks and birds that gather near the river, there are two play areas for children according to the age, the little train that runs around the park is a great addition and so is the boating area. All in all a great location tucked away in the middle of the city, pretty special if you ask me.
ShanilaGood day out 4 out of 5 stars
I went to the park with my cousin and our children, had a lovely morning walking around, on the play area, in pets corner. Very impressed witH the play area, but the cafe is expensive... Would recommend you take a picnic!
