From vampires to whales, get ready to get your teeth stuck into lots of cool things to do in Whitby!
This seaside town may look idyllic and sweet, however, you might be surprised to discover Whitby Abbey is a famous ruin that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula! Enter the abbey if you dare and let the audio tour take you through the crevices as you look for evidence of the vampire in the shadows.
If you didn’t see him then The Dracula Experience will help to bring him to life. This entertaining tour uses animated scenes, live actors and special effects to tell the Dracula story. Use what you’ve learnt to take on The Whitby Vampire Curse Treasure Trail. Solve the clues as you go along to lift the curse of the vampire and set Whitby free!
Once you’re done fighting vampires on, go and see some equally impressive monsters of the deep at the Whitby Whale Watching Centre. Back in the 18th-century whales were hunted off this coast, however now they are protected and cherished so look out for whales, dolphins or porpoises swimming freely and safely in the water on this four-hour trip.
Back on dry land you can either head to Runswick Bay. This sheltered beach has won a Quality Coast Award and is a perfect spot for families to swim, relax and do a bit of fossil hunting or if it isn’t quite beach weather, then The Old Coastguard Station overlooks Robin Hood Bay and is a couple of miles closer to town. It’ll tell you all about the changing coastline and the wildlife that inhabits it. Stop for a drink served up with stunning sea views!
