Attraction Information
The South Downs Planetarium Science Centre offers a 100 seat Star Theatre, with planetarium projector and 10m dome. Kids can experience convincing celestial events with fascinating commentary, without the usual stargazing frustrations of unexpected cloud cover and light pollution. See eclipses, comets, meter showers, shooting stars and much more.
Shows regularly held include: Hubble's Glorious Universe; The Hunt for Earth-like Planets; Magnificent Moons; Summer Skies; Meteorites, Space Rocks and Impacts; The Northern Lights and Tour of The Planets.
This is also a centre for associated sciences whose additional academic facilities include Public Library, Workshop and Information Technology Centre. The fascinating image galleries include satellite generated weather pictures, Hubble Space Telescope images and film material from robotic observatories.
They feature between 8 and 10 public shows and demonstrations a month, but these are held at varying times so one must check their scheduling pages in advance. Booking is advised as they are quite rightly very popular. Leave plenty of time around the presentation times to explore the galleries and collections, it's really a terrific educational resource.
