It's like walking through a storybook of British craftsmanship and joy, where every page turn reveals another chapter of fun!
About The WonderWorks
The WonderWorks (before Hornby Visitor Centre), is a journey 100 years back into the past. You'll explore and discover British ingenuity and craftsmanship, outlining the evolution of Frank Hornby and his brand from its early days to the present! The rebranding of the Hornby Visitor Centre into The WonderWorks now provides people of ALL ages something to marvel at.
Things To Do
Imagine stepping into a place where toy trains zip through miniature mountains, where race cars zoom around twists and turns, and where every corner holds a story of innovation and dreams. That's The WonderWorks for you—a playground of the past, present, and future for families who love to laugh, learn, and play together.
Families can enjoy this immersive experience that showcases how these beloved toys have captivated the imaginations of both young and old for over a century! The centre's exhibitions are designed to offer an engaging narrative that highlights the innovation and creativity at the heart of Hornby's success.
Plus, it's a real treat for toy fans, with rare examples of Britain’s best-loved knickknacks and an interactive Thomas and Friends track that will have kids drooling! Play the day away at Hornby Visitor Centre.
Track over 100 years of history from the tinplate and Frank Hornby's early home-made toys of 30s era Hornby, right up to the favourites of today. You’ll see a collection of model trains and 24 extremely rare model cars! There are plenty of intriguing artefacts from yesteryear but the content is light enough that small kids can enjoy learning as much as the grown-ups.
Hands-On Experiences
Who says museums are just for looking? Not us! What’s great about this family attraction is the option for a hands-on experience with a spectacular model railway and Scalextric track where super-speed fans can race those legendary little cars.
Dive into action with hands-on exhibits where YOU control the fun. Command your own train through scenic wonders, or challenge your family to a high-speed Scalextric showdown. It's your chance to be the captain of your adventure, steering through the exciting world of model railways and racing tracks where every play is a victory lap.
So, for any model train enthusiast out there, you can take control of model trains and race them through miniature landscapes that spark wonder and excitement! These interactive displays not only entertain but also inspire a deeper appreciation for the art of model-making and the joy of collective play!
Plus, make it to one of their Make 'n' Paint activity days so kids can make and decorate an Airfix kit to take home.
Fun Workshops
Ever wondered how to build your own mini-world or make a race car that's unbeatable? Their daily workshops are like a wizard's school for the curious minds of tomorrow. Led by toy geniuses, kids (and parents too!) can learn the secrets behind creating the perfect model railway or the fastest race car. It's not just learning; it's fun with a capital "F" that will spark creativity and maybe even start a lifelong hobby.
Food & Drink
Head to the cafe for a bite to eat! From jacket potatoes and fresh sandwiches to toasted paninis and homebaked goodies!!
