The Revenue Museum is free to visit and can be found in the crypt of the Chapel Royal in Dublin Castle, which has a great complex of buildings to explore, most of it for free as well, so this is a great location for a low priced family day out.
The whole family will be surprised by how interesting, and sometimes amusing, this great little museum is, with a number of insightful and colourful displays. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the activities of the Revenue Commissioners over several centuries, with a chance to see some of the items that have been confiscated, you will be amazed! There are also examples of counterfeit goods, a stamp duty machine, and early computer technology.
Kids (and big kids) will enjoy the interactive and instructive video games where you have to guess the parts of a house that were subject to tax in the past, or search for hidden contraband! There is video footage of an alcohol duty assessment, plus information about the recovery of items that have been smuggled in the human body!
This is generally a self guided tour, with plenty of interesting information to discover, but if you or the kids have any questions, the friendly official at reception will be happy to help.
