Attraction Information
Goodrich Castle is considered one of the most majestic and best preserved of all English medieval castles, offering plenty in the way of rich history and kids' fun too, making it a great day out for families with all age groups.
You can pick up a free audio guide to listen to Goodrich's eventful past and learn about the famous Civil War Siege; see the creepy murder holes built into the castle walls and admire the striking stained glass window in their 13th century chapel.
There are plenty of stories to hear about this fascinating medieval fortress, ranging from its origins in the 11th century up through to its rather dramatic fall in 1646. Explore the castle exhibition together, discovering what life was like when lived in a medieval fortress and viewing the evocative Civil War artefacts. From this exhibition you can then climb up inside the castle to see the famous 'Roaring Meg', that being the only surviving Civil War mortar! There's also a cool cache of Civil War cannonballs, found scattered about Goodrich in the 1920s!
Plus an active school holiday programme of events including live plays, themed family days and more, so well worth keeping an eye on things through the handy link to see what bonuses are coming up! Children's trails are sometimes provided during the school holidays, too! There's also a picnic area, tea room, baby changing facilities, and grassed woodland and fields to run around in, handy for the smalls!
