Raglan Castle’s History
This late medieval building was built in the 1430s by William ap Thomas, who was a prominent Welsh knight. In the 16th century, the William Somerset inherited the castle and upgraded it to the fit the Tudor trends. Pulling in all the sufficient resources to transform it into the grandest castle, with renaissance gardens and much more.
The castle became a mighty fortress palace for the next 200 years afterwards. It stood proudly being used only for comfort and grandeur until the English civil war broke out in the 17th century. Raglan Castle came under siege which lead to its near ruin.
Today, families flock to see the remains of an ancient castle that is a now a scenic ruin against the striking landscape of south Wales.

You'll feel as if you are in a medieval dream, looking over moats, running up and down steep castle steps, cellars and ancient rooms. Kids will love climbing the Great Tower and the recently restored Grand Staircase. At the end of your great climb, you'll get amazing views of the rolling Welsh countryside.

Raglan castle also hosts a Falconry Day for all families to take part in. Watch beautiful birds soar through the skies, flexing their giant wings as they take perform aerial acrobatics.

There are lots of picnic benches to choose from as your walk around Raglan Castle. There are snacks and drinks to buy from the Castle's cafe however, there are no hot drinks available. BUT they do have ice cream!
