The birthplace of the world’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare, Stratford upon Avon is rich in history and culture. The imprint the writer has left on the town is still present today as you can see in one of five sixteenth century houses related to Shakespeare, including Anne Hathaway’s cottage and Hall’s Croft.
Take a walk along the scenic River Avon, the surrounding wonderful Warwickshire countryside, or around the Holy Trinity Church where the ‘Bard of Avon’ was buried in 1616 then stop and see one of his classic plays performed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Have some fun at Mary Arden’s Farm! The childhood home of Shakespeare’s mum is a working Tudor farm that is open to the public, here you can meet the Tudors who run the farm just as she would have, see falconry demonstrations, meet lots of friendly animals and explore the historic buildings.
There’s always time for some shopping so stop off at the Maybird Shopping Park for a spot of retail therapy. The culture rich city’s medieval streets are also lined with lot’s of top-quality restaurants and pubs, perfect to relax in at the end of a busy day of sightseeing!
