Attraction Information

Still channeling the hearty sense of Benedictine hospitality that it has since the middle ages, Canterbury Cathedral welcomes all! Be sure to ask for the Welcome Centre for the free ‘Tomb Trail' or ‘Creatures Great and Small' leaflet. Alternatively, for £2.99 you could purchase the ‘Young Person's Guide to Canterbury Cathedral' with friendly lion Ralph as your own personal guide!

Visit, explore and enjoy musical services such as the Eucharist and Evensongs, or even take a guided tour and the experience the whole cathedral. A fascinating place to visit whether your visit be casual or spiritual, with fascinating facts to interest all ages: like there are 1,200sqm of beautiful stained glass picture windows here, and they used to be cleaned withwee!

Slightly more dignified history also abounds here of course for the older ones, with this being amongst other things both the crime scene and resting place of the martyred and then canonised Saint Thomas Beckett. Lots of secret schooling chances if you know your stuff!

It's worth remembering if you're intent on exploring inside that the Cathedral is very community oriented and has not infrequent closures for big functions and additional seasonal services. Therefore it's fairly essential that you contact the Visits Office or at least check the Forthcoming Closures page through our link before planning a serious visit, especially if you'd like to hear a musical service. Don't worry: it's worth the planning!

Other visitor facilities range from guided tours and audio tours to private evening tours and 'behind the scenes' tours to the Stained Glass Studio, Archives and or Library.
