Attraction Information
Chatelherault Country Park built as a Hunting Lodge and Summer House for the Dukes of Hamilton in 1732. The restored buildings are now home to a Visitor Centre, the West Lodge, plus an Exhibition Gallery, a café and a gift shop. Outside, there are over 500 acres of scenice woodland and countryside to enjoy, so it's a great place for a family day out.
The Visitor centre has a great interactive heritage exhibition to explore, where you can see a badger's home or do some fossil brass rubbings and more! The hunting lodge was restored in 1987 and contains a number of rooms that are open to the public, including the Duke's room and the Banqueting Hall. 18th century gardens surround the lodge and include a traditional herbaceous border and bowling green, plus plants that were grown for their use in medicine and cooking, as well as their frangrance and beauty.
If you want to get close to nature, there are over 10 miles of gorge and woodland trails to follow. There are 5 trails to choose from and they vary in length from 45 minutes to 3 hours, so there is something to suit everyone. There is also an Adventure Play Ground for the kids, with features to amuse all ages, from toddler to teenages!
A range of guided historical and heritage tours are available, plus there are a number of events held throughout the year so check online before you visit to see what's on.
