Attraction Information
The understated Calderglen Country Park is a much more rounded day than it sounds, boasting Children's Zoo, Tropical Glasshouses, 2 Adventure Play Areas for both smaller and bigger kids, Ornamental Gardens, numerous Nature Trails and Walks, Courtyard Cafe, and an 18-hole golf course!
They have a nice quantity and range of animals on display at the farm area that really add a lot to the experience, not least wallabies and meerkats, the smallest tortoises imaginable and some of the rarest bird types in the world! Their afternoon feeding sessions mix just that with a keeper talk where they're generally happy to answer kids' questions too. It's an extra chance to get some insider info on the creatures so not to be missed if you can stay organised!
Aside from the more contrived entertainments it's also a wonderful spot in natural terms to explore, spreading alongside the Rotten Calder River and taking in waterfalls and impressive geology. There are also 8 miles of way marked nature trails radiating outward, at varying lengths. You can pick up details at the Visitor Centre where you'll also find a locally sourced art gallery and learn about their talks and walks programmes which offer a guided and more educational experience of the zoo and conservatory. Well worth doing!
