Did you know that Chatelherault Country Park was built as a Hunting Lodge and Summer House for the Dukes of Hamilton in 1732? The restored buildings are now home to a Visitor Centre, the West Lodge, an Exhibition Gallery, a café and a gift shop. There are plenty of guided historical and heritage tours to experience. The Visitor Centre has a great interactive heritage exhibition to explore, where you can see a badger's home, do some fossil brass rubbings, and more! The 18th century hunting lodge was restored in 1987 and has several rooms open to the public, including the Duke's room and the Banqueting Hall. The 18th-century gardens surrounding the lodge include a traditional herbaceous border and bowling green. Plus, the plants that were grown were used in medicine and cooking, as well as their fragrance and beauty!
If you want to get close to nature, there are over 10 miles of gorge and woodland trails to follow! Discover five trails to choose from, which vary in length - from 45 minutes to 3 hours, so you'll find a trail to suit everyone.
