The Sheep and Wool Centre offers a unique insight into how important sheep and wool were to Connemara in the past, plus a great opportunity to see some live demonstrations of how fleece is changed into fabric!
This is a great chance to for the kids to learn about the history of the local wool industry, sheep farming, and how the fleece is transformed. There are daily exhibitions of carding, spinning and weaving, which are practiced on looms and wheels from the turn of the last century! Discover more from the interactive exhibits and displays, which include slide shows, and interviews from those who remember the past. There is also a chance for the kids to find out what life was like for children their age during the 1900s through a hands on experience.
During July and August, there is also a chance to meet sheep and to see some of them being sheared by hand by a local farmer. Limited guided visits available each week so we recommend that you contact before your visit to prevent disappointment.
