About Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway

Got train lovers at home? Enjoy a scenic ride on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and discover the picturesque line which runs from Cinque Port town of Hythe to Dymchurch, towards the railways headquarters at New Romney and finally reaching the National Nature Reserve of Dungeness.

Don’t miss out on The Model Exhibition at New Romney Station, it’s a must-see! While your little ones are getting busy with the interactive exhibits, you can explore various displays of the railway’s history. Showcasing RH&DR memorabilia, past headboards and a working model railway, the exhibition has plenty to entertain the whole family.

Our world famous one-third full size steam & diesel locomotives

Known as “Kent’s Mainline in Miniature”, our locomotives have powered their way along the 13½ miles of track from the Cinque Port town of Hythe, terminating in Dungeness; a National Nature Reserve.

The Railway is probably best known for its superb fleet of one-third full size steam and diesel locomotives, all of which have been built to run safely at speeds of 25mph on rails only 15 inches apart. All of the steam locomotives were built between 1925 and 1937.

With 4 stations in between, all within walking distance of a beach, our railway provides you with an opportunity to explore this unique corner of Kent.

6 train stations to visit!

!Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway runs for 13 ½ miles from the picturesque Cinque Port town of Hythe, through the family-friendly seaside village to Dymchurch, towards the railway’s headquarters at New Romney and finally reaching the National Nature Reserve of Dungeness. All of our stations are within walking distance of the beaches along this corner of Kent.

Dymchurch is ideal for families! Our station is a 5 minute walk from this traditional seaside town's amusements, arcades, sandy beaches and the buzzing high street!

Our New Romney Station is the headquarters of the railway and being 8 miles by train from Hythe station and 5 miles by train from Dungeness station, it is the perfect mid-line stopping off point.

It encompasses a model railway exhibition, which is free to enter with a Romney Rover Ticket. The seafront is a 10 minute walk from our station.

Dungeness is one of the largest expanses of shingle in the world and is classified as Britain's only desert by the Met Office. It is of international conservation importance because of its plant and invertebrate communities and birdlife. Other attractions here include the old lighthouse, which is often open to visitors to climb to the top!
