Old Colwyn Beach is golden sand backed by a wide sweeping promenade. plenty of seating, refreshment kiosks and car parking.
The bay gets very busy in summer with jet skiing, sailing and other water sports. There's good sea fishing off the rocks at Penmaen Rhos and good swimming all over if you can avoid the others, though there is no lifeguard cover.
You can follow a nature and historical trail up the River Colwyn Valley from the promenade through the Fairy Glen nature reserve, which is overlooked by some pretty ruins and at the clifftop there are excellent views. A cycle path runs along the coast from here
