Attraction Information
At Grimes Graves today, visitors (10+) can descend 9 metres (30 ft) by ladder into one excavated shaft, an unforgettable experience: the only Neolithic flint mine open to visitors in Britain. A grassy lunar landscape of over 400 shafts, pits, quarries and spoil dumps
Visitors can use a hard hat and descend into one of the shafts to see the radiating galleries at the bottom and the marks made by the antler picks of the original miners.
Try to catch one of the flint-knapping demonstrations (with the knapper in costume wearing only animal skins!).
Plus the small exhibition area illustrates the history of this fascinating site.
