Things To Do At Erddig Hall and Garden

The much-loved 17th-century home offers much to do indoors and outdoors, too. It was built by Thomas Webb, a Cheshire mason, for Joshua Edisbury, the high sheriff of Denbighshire. Two-storey wings created a 'rooms of parade' for John Meller.

Discovery trails throughout the house will keep your kids entertained while they get to know the daily chores of a servant, from the yucky task of emptying chamber pots to exhausting 14-hour days. Today you explore a family home filled with 18th-century furniture, fine interiors and a collection of portraits and poems from the servants, which is the largest collection of servants' art. You'll discover unique and interesting wallpapers like 18th-century Chinese wallpaper and textiles, oil paintings, photographs and more.

The Garden of Erddig Hall and Garden

Then head outside to explore the 1,200-acre landscaped pleasure park and estate of beautiful meadows, ponds, meandering rivers, veteran trees and wonderful woodland! The woodland is home to many wildlife and a range of habitats. Can you find which animals you think live there? The parkland is also open and free to access, so you and the family can discover and embark on a variety of walks. Explore the beautiful parkland as a family, walk down the "cathedral aisle", and take a look from the spectacular viewpoint at the end.

During the cold winter season, you can spot pleached limes, herbaceous borders, formal hedges, fruit trees, paths, ponds and more. Like waxcap fungi, holly berries, hazelnuts and wild primroses, all in the 18th-century gardens, which are Grade I listed! You can also discover a formal 18th-century walled garden with Dutch influences and features. Dazzling you with its natural beauty, especially with its daffodils in spring and formal hedges.

Feeling hungry? Indulge in some treats and a range of food and drinks available! Head to Hayloft restaurant for hot foods, fresh salads, sandwiches and fresh bakes! The kids can pick their own lunch boxes filled with healthy and delicious snacks.

Or maybe you'd like to visit the Tea Parlour. It serves hot snacks, drinks, and the popular local Welsh ice cream, with scrumptious flavours like honeycomb, fresh raspberry, and more.
