Embankment Gardens and Russell Park
Bedford, BedfordshireAbout Embankment Gardens and Russell Park
Embankment Gardens and Russell Park is heavy on the open spaces so there's loads of room to play traditional family games and generally run about like a loon! If they're willing to be more organised about it then check out the Tennis, Football, Rugby, Putting, Bowling green, Table Tennis and Basketball facilities too. Some need pre booking but some you can gain access to on the day, either way you generally need your own equipment so it's not an element to leave unplanned!
You can hire a family size row boat and extend your adventure to the water, plus angling (including disabled platforms) is also available so if you've got any wee fisher folk then bring their stuff and remember to sort out the day license!
There are also several scenic riverside walks of varying lengths to enjoy, cafe service, Bandstand and the very necessary adventure play area, with physical play equipment suited to kids between 3 and 13, largely asset out in an assault course or trim trail style. Hey, it's a playground: they'll love it regardless!
There are plenty of well kept gardens to saunter through and picnic in, and if you can keep them swinging between activities you have most of a day right here! And the ornate Victorian Suspension Bridge which runs across the river is a fabulous spot for a family photo, so bring the camera along.
