A trip to Scotland is on everyone's list, and with so many beautiful attractions to visit, you won't run out of family-friendly activities and ideas! A magnificent castle to add to your list is the Dunrobin Castle - Scotland's largest great house in the Northern Highlands. Resembling a stunning French château and conical spires. It was designed with architectural, influences from Sir Charles Barry, and Scotland's Sir Robert Lorimer. Dunrobin Castle has a rich history due to it being home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland since the 13th century. The Sutherlands were one of the most powerful families in Britain.Situated on the east coast of the Northern Highlands, the Scottish Castle promises beautiful views and walled gardens. It's been known to come straight out of a fairytale book with its magnificent look and wonderful gardens. Alongside the impressive castle and beautiful garden, you can now add daily birds of prey flying demonstrations on the Castle lawn! Admire the flight of Harris hawks and the local birds of prey and educate yourself on the ancient art of falconry. The Dunrobin Castle gardens also grow gorgeous flowers that are displayed around the castle, an incredible woodland, and a pool and fountain on the east walled garden. Then if you take a walk, you'll find a paradise of colour, unique features, towering trees, a shingle beach and a stupendous backdrop! Don't forget the museum too! Situated in the Castle gardens, it has a display of taxidermy animals shot by the family itself, as well as items collected from around the world. The museum is also one of the most remarkable private collections in the British Isles. Feeling peckish? Have a nibble in the Tea Room, sip on some hearty homemade soup and freshly prepared moreish sandwiches. They also offer hot meals, sweet homemade cakes, pastries and delectable local ice creams!
