Ecoventures
Cromarty, The HighlandsAbout Ecoventures
Ecoventures gives you and the family a great opportunity to experience the thrill of being aboard a cool high-speed, offshore RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) and to share firsthand the unique scenery, wildlife and history of the area!
They operate from the historic village of Cromarty on the easternmost tip of the Black Isle, which is set against an imposing cliff coastline that is home to a variety of wildlife, the most famous being a resident colony of Bottlenose dolphins!
The RIB, Saorsa, has been designed with wildlife watching in mind and has a shallow draft to allow access to coves, plus almost silent running at idle and no oily exhaust fumes to block your view. There are 12 comfortable individual pod seats that provide great visibility, plus there is special seating designed for kids and those with reduced mobility.
A variety of boat trips are available, but the family will probably want to go on the 2-hour Wildlife Watch trip. Each trip starts with a short introduction and a safety briefing before you board and head out into the Inner Moray Firth, with your guide explaining the history of the area along the way. As well as the Bottlenose dolphins, you will also want to keep an eye out for Common and Grey seals, the Harbour porpoise and occasionally a Minke whale!
There is also a bird colony to spot at the base of the cliffs, plus some imposing war fortifications.
Wet weather gear, lifejackets and goggles are provided. Bring your own nerve!
