Dunham Massey Hall
Altrincham, Greater ManchesterAbout Dunham Massey Hall
Nestled between vibrant Manchester and rural Cheshire, Dunham Massey is a wonderful family-friendly day out. Cared for by the National Trust, the majority of this large and accessible place is buggy and wheelchair friendly.
Things To Do
Fallow deer roam free across the parkland alongside a huge collection of ancient trees. The extensive gardens feature woodland areas, miniature bridges and a formal lawn that is perfect for picnics. The beautiful Georgian house and historic buildings are also open in the warmer months - giving you the perfect opportunity to step into history and learn about the people who once lived here and cared for this place.
The Parkland & Gardens
The medieval deer park is open all year round and has supported the herd of fallow deer for around 1000 years! There's plenty to spot like fallow deer and rare species of bugs and birds. What creatures will you see?
Dunham Massey has a stunning rose garden and one of Britain's finest winter gardens to explore, a changing garden that brings new seasonal highlights for every visit. Brimming with colour, the gardens are the ideal place to take your little ones for a spot of tranquillity whatever the season or weather. Wade through a sea of bluebells or watch the vibrant tulips bloom along the canal walkway. Can you spot all the shades of daffodils filling the park & gardens?
Dunham Massey House
Inside the beautiful Georgian house, you'll uncover the captivating history and family tree of the Booth and Grey families. Enter the kitchen and count all the copper pots and pans. Sneak into the Butler's Pantry for some peace and quiet or take a look out of the sash windows at the expansive views.
This historic house is famous for its highly impressive collections of silver, furniture and paintings. The collection of paintings consists mostly of family portraits and is well worth a visit! There's also a library containing original books, influenced by the Booth family - particularly by the 2nd Earl of Warrington.
Food & Drink
Tummies are growling, eyes are flickering, and you're ready for a pit stop! It's a good job there are three places on site to eat, drink and rest.
Open from 9 am until the park closes, the bright and airy Stamford Cafe is located in the visitor's centre and offers delicious light lunches and treats. Grab a cup of tea or enjoy a cool drink outside on the terrace overlooking the stunning views. There is indoor seating too.
The Ice Cream Parlour is an ideal place to take your kids and your pooch for a bite to eat. There are water bowls available for dogs and ice cream for the little ones.
Or why not have a sit-down meal in the historic surroundings of the Stables Restaurant? Enjoy a range of hot and cold options. The restaurant opens at 10 am and closes at 3 pm.
