Capital Karts Star City
Birmingham, West MidlandsAbout Capital Karts Star City
If you're looking for a family day out in Birmingham that swaps the usual soft play and trampolining for something with a bit more speed and excitement, Capital Karts Star City is well worth a visit. Located inside the Star City entertainment complex just off Junction 6 of the M6, it's easy to get to by car, bus or train and offers one of the best indoor go-karting experiences in the country.
The headline attraction is the track itself. Stretching over 600 metres across multiple levels, it features 12 fast flowing corners and long straights where drivers can reach speeds of up to 45mph. This is the UK's fastest indoor karting track, and it feels every bit as thrilling as that sounds. The karts are fully electric next-generation BIZ Eco Volt GTs, delivering instant torque, sharp handling and consistent power lap after lap. There are no fumes, no engine lag and no drop off in performance, which means every race feels fair and every overtake is earned.
What makes Capital Karts Star City particularly appealing for families is that juniors aged 7 and over (as long as they are at least 125cm tall) can race on the same track as adults. There's no separate kiddie circuit here. Children and parents go head to head on the full track, which adds a brilliant competitive edge to the experience. It's rare to find an activity where the whole family can genuinely take part together at the same level, and that's a big part of what makes this place special.
The main event is the Sprint session, a 15-minute race where drivers compete against the clock to set the fastest lap time. Sessions run throughout the day from early morning until late at night, so there's plenty of flexibility when planning your visit. Pricing starts from £29 per person, and you'll need to purchase a Driver Essentials Pack (balaclava and gloves) for £2.50 per person as a hygiene requirement. It's a small extra cost that's worth knowing about in advance.
Beyond the track, there's plenty to keep the family entertained. The Race Lounge offers trackside views so spectators can watch the action while enjoying a selection of hot and cold drinks and snacks. If anyone in the group fancies a different kind of racing challenge, there are also pro-grade racing simulators on site. These are the same kind used by professional drivers and come loaded with legendary circuits from around the world. They're a great option for younger children who don't quite meet the height requirement for the main track, or for anyone who wants to try their hand at Formula One style racing.
Getting to Capital Karts Star City is straightforward. If you're driving, there's parking at Star City. Public transport options include the NX66 bus from Birmingham city centre (around 20 minutes), and the nearest train stations are Gravelly Hill and Aston. There's also secure bike storage if you prefer to cycle.
Capital Karts Star City is open seven days a week, with sessions running from 10am on weekdays and 9am on weekends. Whether you're planning a birthday party, a weekend family outing or just looking for something different to do with the kids, it delivers a genuinely exciting experience that children and adults will be talking about long after the chequered flag drops.
