Go wild creating memories at Alderford Lake in!
Alderford Lake is the perfect destination for summer family fun- from their incredible 120-person aquapark to paddleboard hire, to our twist on Escape Rooms this is a must-visit destination. Your summer starts at Alderford Lake. Water Activities With 14 acres of pure splashing fun on the water, you're bound to have the best day ever. The aquapark offers an incredible and exhilarating family adventure, where you can slip, slide and climb on an inflatable obstacle like no other! Why not check out the epic 3.8m inflatable tower- Mount Rainier? At the centre of it all lies the lake itself, a spring-fed expanse of crystal-clear water that draws in swimmers, paddlers, and families throughout the year. Wild swimming has become one of Alderford’s signature experiences, with visitors travelling from across the country to take a dip in the safe, well-managed waters. Those who prefer a splash of excitement can head to the giant inflatable aquapark, open during the warmer months, where climbing walls, slides, jumps, and obstacle courses provide endless fun for children and adults alike. Paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes are available to hire, or you can bring your own and launch straight onto the lake. For a gentler pace, simply walking the circular route around the shoreline offers a chance to soak up the natural beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings.
But Alderford is far more than just a place to enjoy the water. Unique experiences set it apart, with the Escape Islands being a highlight for many visitors. These puzzle-based adventures transport groups across the lake to themed islands, where challenges and riddles must be solved against the clock. It’s an unusual, immersive twist on the traditional escape room, and a favourite with families, friends, and team-building groups. For those who want to extend their stay, wild camping and lakeside pods provide the perfect base, allowing you to wake to the sound of water lapping at the shore and enjoy exclusive access to peaceful swimming or paddling spots. What really makes Alderford stand out, however, is its year-round programme of events. The calendar is packed with experiences that make every visit feel different. Summer is brought to life by AlderFest, a family-friendly music festival that combines live performances with lakeside fun. Themed swims mark the spring and autumn equinoxes, while summer evenings often feature drive-in cinema nights or water-based activities with a twist. As the nights draw in, Halloween transforms the site with spooky trails and scare attractions, followed by a dazzling Bonfire Night celebration with fireworks over the water. Winter brings perhaps the most magical experience of all, when Alderford becomes home to Christmas lights, festive trails, an undercover ice rink, and enchanting boat rides to meet Santa on his island. These events create lasting memories and ensure that Alderford is a destination worth revisiting again and again.
Food and drink are another cornerstone of the Alderford experience. The Lakeside Kitchen is a welcoming spot for everything from hearty breakfasts and freshly made lunches to indulgent afternoon teas. Using locally sourced ingredients, the café offers a taste of Shropshire hospitality, while the takeaway hatch is ideal for grabbing something quick between activities. Visitors can also browse the on-site farm shop, stocked with regional produce and gifts, or enjoy a scoop of Snugburys ice cream—an essential summer treat. During larger events and festival weekends, pop-up street food vendors bring even more choice, with flavours from around the world adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
Alderford Lake has become a place where moments are made, whether that’s a family laughing together as they conquer the aquapark, a group of friends puzzling their way through an Escape Island, or a child’s wide-eyed wonder as they sail across the water to visit Santa. It is a destination that balances excitement with tranquillity, tradition with creativity, and activity with relaxation. Whatever the season, a visit to Alderford is always an opportunity to connect—with nature, with others, and with the joy of doing something memorable.
