Attraction Information
A wonderful experience whatever one's spiritual affiliations, a trip the Westminster Cathedral really ought to include the spectacular Viewing Gallery, some 64 metres (210 feet) above street level! It's free to explore and (in the right weather!) offers amazing views of surrounding London, with the last hour of opening in winter months being a sparkling treat of street lights and peaceful urban glow!
You and the kids will feel delightfully removed from the noise of the motorised hustle below and the environment is pleasingly hushed and atmospheric: it's unusual to have to ask the kids to whisper! A lovely addition to any family tourist trip, the Gallery and also the ground floor lobby feature beautiful artistic works relating to the history and development of the Cathedral so it's great for academic visits too.
Rather excitingly for the first time one may now also explore the Treasures of Westminster Cathedral exhibition, a tremendous trove of rare ecclesiastical objects and impressive relics that will press the pirate button of any warm blooded child! Another highlight of this area is the frankly amazing architectural model of the Cathedral, widely acknowledged as one of the most impressive in the country.
The building itself is crammed with inspiring works of religious art including sculptures, marble works, mosaics and very much more to discover, with a welcoming attitude toward (well behaved!) families.
