Design and Features

The arch is made of granite and features a classical design, reflecting the popular architectural style of the 19th Century and early 20th Centuries. We think it's a good building for children to discover and explore how buildings from the past were designed. It stands at a striking height and is adorned with intricate sculptures. One of the most notable features of Wellington Arch is the sculpture that sits atop it, known as the "Quadriga."

The Quadriga Sculpture 

The Quadriga, added in 1912. An interesting fact for children to learn is that it is home to the largest bronze statue in Europe. This decorative sculpture was designed by Adrian Jones and depicts the angel of peace descending on the chariot of war. This bronze sculpture replaced an earlier giant statue of the Duke of Wellington, which was moved due to it size.

Location and Significance

Wellington Arch stands at Hyde Park Corner, near Green Park. This location is significant as it marks the entrance to central London.
