About Tiverton Canal Co
Situated in Mid Devon, almost equidistant between Taunton and Exeter, on the banks of the Grand Western Canal & Local Nature Reserve, the Tiverton Canal is a fascinating and unique family-owned Living Heritage Attraction. The crew are dressed as if from a bygone era. The large Heavy Horses (including Shires) at the ready and the Brind family proudly operating one of the few Horse-Drawn Passenger Barges in the UK!
You will experience a truly environmentally friendly trip along the stunning Canal and local nature reserve, and all just a 10 minute walk from the centre of the historic market town of Tiverton.
Get the kids an ice-cream at the ‘floating-canal-side cafe-bar’, the Ducks’ Ditty Cafe-bar - and maybe get yourself a filter-coffee (or a glass of red wine). Get yourself a souvenir of your day out from the Canal Gift Shop, which has a wide range of canal art, toys and gifts.
For those who like to get themselves wet, you can alternatively have fun exploring the waterway at your own pace with a Rowing boat or Canadian canoe!
The Grand Western Canal country park and Local Nature Reserve is one of Devon’s hidden gems. The canal itself is open all year with free access to a children’s play area with a canal theme and an excellent educational visitor centre with the history of this waterway and its working horses.
The horse-drawn barge and Ducks' Ditty cafe-bar are open between April and October each year (please see our website for opening dates). Rowing boat hire is available during the summer months only (for obvious reasons!)

Tiverton Horse-Drawn Barges 50th Anniversary Celebrations. That's right! We've been running our attraction here in Devon for 50 years! How the time has flown!
As part of our celebratory year, we wanted to bring about some changes to next year's trip schedule. One idea we've had is to increase the number of 1½ hr trips including a 1½ hour on Saturday afternoon.

When you are looking for stuff to do in Devon with the kids, you could easily spend a day making memories here at Tiverton Canal Co. There is something here for all the family, whether you love Canal Trips, rowing boats, heavy horses, waterside Bar, Canal walks, local history or just sitting and enjoying the wildlife.
We operate between April and October each year. Please see our website for trip times. The Grand Western Canal country park (including a play area in the basin) are open all year round for walks.

Hire Rowing boats and Canadian Canoes
Fancy a self-propelled boat ride down the Grand Western Canal in Tiverton Devon? During the Summer months we are proud to provide rowing boat and hire canadian canoes. This is suitable for anyone over 3 (due to the available life jackets). There is usually no need to book in advance. Once you've had a row down the canal, don't forget to visit the floating cafe-bar and round off your day with a light lunch, a cake, a nice coffee or some ice-cream!
