About Thorney Heritage Museum
Thorney Heritage Museum
Thorney has always been an island above the surrounding landscape, whether that landscape was of inundated swamp lands or drained fens.
Maps on display in the museum indicate settlement in the surrounding area from bronze Age through Roman, Saxon until the monks set up an isolated chapel on the island.
Their museum concentrates on the time from the first settlement by these monks, but relates human life to the geology and water courses of the natural world.
